The most powerful benefit of DHEA may be immune system enhancement!
Although many DHEA supplements exist, Vit-Immune’s DHEA is 99% pure and is micronized for better absorption and utilization, thus improving its wide variety of biological, biochemical, and anti-aging effects.
Dehydroepiandosterone (DHEA) is a hormone produced chiefly by the adrenal glands and is the most abundant steroid in the human bloodstream during most of our adult life. More importantly, it plays a powerful and direct role in overall human health, vitality and longevity.
DHEA: The “Mother Hormone” DHEA is often called the “Mother Hormone” because it is converted on demand by the body into many other active and necessary body regulating hormones. It is a precursor of aldosterone, which preserves minerals in the body; cortisone, which is involved in the control of bodily defenses and energy and other hormones which affect sexual desire and enjoyment as well as bone density, mental acuity and a general sense of well being. Essentially, it acts as a vast reservoir hormone from which needed quantities of other crucial, health-enhancing hormones are produced.
In addition to acting as the precursor of many crucial substances, DHEA also functions as a buffer or normalizing hormone. It serves to de-excite and control the activities of other hormones and enzymes in the body. For example, during periods of acute stress, such as physical injury or emotional strife, the body produces excess cortisol which dampens the immune response and lowers resistance to infection. DHEA in turn normalizes cortisol, counteracting its immunosuppressive effects and promotes a more rapid recovery. It appears that cortisol and DHEA work in tandem to keep immune response balanced. This normalizing and inhibitory function is thought to explain in part DHEA's usefulness in controlling cancer, diabetes and stress.
DHEA’s Importance to the Immune System
It is apparent, however, that DHEA is much more than a substance used to synthesize other hormones. Certain cells in the body contain specific DHEA receptors whose sole function is to bind to DHEA. This indicates that DHEA plays a much more direct role in human health.
It is anticipated that the most powerful benefit of DHEA may be immune system enhancement. DHEA protects against bacterial and viral infections by improving the body’s resistance mechanisms. It has been shown to increase the number of monocytes, immune cells, B-immune cells, and Natural Killer cells. DHEA increases T-cell activity and is intricately involved in the regulation of Interleukin 2, a chemical secreted by T-cells that helps the body recognize and mount an attack against foreign invaders.
DHEA: An Indicator of Aging
Much of the attention focused on DHEA is due to the fact that it progressively declines with age in both men and women. Excessive decline caused by modern day stress and illnesses indicates that age related deterioration is taking place. Unlike other adrenal steroids, whose serum levels remain relatively stable with aging, maximum levels of DHEA are reached between 20 and 30 years of age and decrease at least 2% per year thereafter. At the age of eighty, a person has about ten percent (10%) of the DHEA that was produced in the second decade of life. It has been shown in numerous studies without exception that DHEA levels were lower in patients with; Heart Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoporosis, Alzheimer's and other senility associated degenerative diseases, and all immunologic illnesses, including and CFIDS, than they were their healthy counterparts.
Since there is rarely a shortage of cholesterol in our bodies from which to manufacture DHEA, medical researchers believe that DHEA’s declining production is due to the body’s inability to manufacture DHEA. For this reason DHEA precursors, such as wild yam, prove to be of little benefit for supplementation. The correlation between DHEA decline and the onset of degenerative diseases is one of the primary reasons researchers have utilized DHEA as an indicator of aging.
Different from the rest: the DHEA Formulation
VitImmune’s DHEA is micronized which means it has been processed into small particles allowing for absorption directly from the intestinal tract into the lymphatic system thus bypassing liver metabolism which makes DHEA less available for binding to receptor sites.
Committed to Quality
Vit-Immune carefully selects only the finest ingredients for use in DHEA. Special chemical assays are performed on all the DHEA to insure purity, safety and potency.
